Ministry to Single Adults is challenging due to the large age group that comprises Singles plus all the different life stages they make up. There are college and career aged singles, singles who have never married, divorced singles, widowed singles as well as single parents. Each group has its own unique needs that must be met and integrating them into the church and into ministry is our goal. We want to help the church include these singles as families in the family of God. A small church can have difficulty effectively reaching all ages of single adults due to a lack of staff, resources, or enough singles in each age category. But because different age groups represent different interests, needs, and physical abilities – it would be unwise for the church to try to minister to these diverse singles in just one group. The Family Ministry Team’s goal is to help meet the unique needs of the single adult and help integrate them into the church and into ministry that will make a significant impact for the Kingdom of God through consultations, resources, customized seminars, and retreats. Some potential seminar topics are: . Strategic Planning for Singles . Building Faith @ Home for Single Parents . Three Priorities for Developing Healthy Relationships . Save Your Marriage Before It Starts . Starting & Growing a Singles Ministry Smaller churches without many single adults can network with other churches to offer workshops and classes that address the singles unique needs – for example, having a Bible study and prayer support group during the week and then return to their home church for regular worship time. The church could also design an ongoing ministry to single adults as an outreach - for example, helping a single-parent with occasional home, yard, or car maintenance; or having a community topical study with a discussion format. A church of any size can minister to single adults, whether through an established group or individually. Most churches could establish a group to reach at least one age segment of singles. The singles population in America is too large and too valuable to ignore. . 100 million adults in the United States are single - according to the statistics of the Census Bureau in 2007- representing the largest percentage of adults in America. . For the first time in U.S. history married couples heading a household are the minority and single adults heading a household are the majority. . More than 30 million Americans live alone, outnumbering the 24.2 million households which contain married couples with children under 18 years of age.
